Development Partnership
----------------------------------------------------------------
Recently, FAO has been a development partner of international
aid agencies and governments, such as the Asian Development
Bank (ADB); European Community (EC); International Fund for
Agricultural Development (IFAD); The Government of Italy;
Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA); The World Bank;
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United States
Aid for International Development (USAID), Swedish International
Development Agency (SIDA), Department for International Development
(DFID), the Spanish Government, Canadian International Development
Agency (CIDA), United Nations Office for the Coordination
of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), the Belgium Government and
the Netherlands Government.
The total funding for different types
of programmes and projects implemented by FAO, as June 2009,
is summarized in the following table.
Under the FAO’s global food security
programme, a trilateral technical cooperation agreement
between FAO, Pakistan and Government of Swaziland has been
singed under the TCDC and South-South Cooperation.
In addition, FAO has been working
in emergencies in Pakistan since the 2005 Kashmir earthquake.
FAO provided timely support to the farming families affected
by the devastating earthquake and helped them resume their
farming-based livelihoods in the earthquake-affected areas.
FAO could also provide timely support to the subsequent
earthquake and flood in Baluchistan thereafter and provided
significant support to the resumption of the agriculture-based
livelihoods and build back better.
