Dr.
Jacques Diouf, Director General of the Food and Agriculture
Organization of the United Nations visited Pakistan
from 28th to 30th October 2010, expressed solidarity
with the people and the government of Pakistan in the
wake of unprecedented flash floods causing huge losses
to life and property. During his visit he called on
His Excellency Mr. Asif Ali Zardari, the President of
the Islamic Republic of Pakistan , His Excellency Mr.
Nazar Mohammad Gondal, Minister for Food and Agriculture
and other senior officials of the Government and UN
agencies in Pakistan and discussed major issues and
initiatives related to food security and agricultural
development, with primary focus on the 2010 floods and
FAO's response,. In addition to a field visit to the
affected areas in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa the Director General
also witnessed the signing of the documents between
FAO/USAID/DFID for emergency relief activities to farmers
in the affected areas.
